DUPR ratings, explained
DUPR stands for Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating. It is the global rating system and technology platform used to evaluate and rank pickleball players. It works much like a golf handicap, giving each player a single, up-to-date number that reflects their skill level.
What the levels mean
- 2.0
- New to the sport. Learning scoring, serves, and basic court positioning.
- 2.5
- Getting consistent. Can sustain longer rallies.
- 3.0
- Intermediate. Consistent serve and return; developing dinking, third-shot drops, and strategy.
- 3.5
- Solid intermediate. Strong all-around game.
- 4.0
- Advanced. Strong dinking, stacking, and shot selection.
- 4.5
- Strong advanced. Plays at the regional tournament level.
- 5.0+
- Expert. Competes at the highest amateur and semi-pro level.
How SMASH uses DUPR
- Open play is organized by skill rating, so you're playing at your level
- Leagues list a DUPR range where one applies, and some leagues record results to DUPR
- Moneyball nights set a DUPR cap to keep the field level
